The National Council for Higher Education (NCHE), is part of the Transforming the Higher Education System (THES) Project, which seeks to strengthen capacity of the Malawian HE system & Institutions to design and deliver high quality, market relevant programs; improve matriculation, retention, & completion rates in STEM & targeted fields, particularly for marginalized & vulnerable students and to increase research and innovation outputs from Malawian Higher Education Institutions.
The project which is being funded by USAID through Michigan State University, is focused on producing innovations to address 13 Grand Challenges aligned with MW2063.
These challenges are not isolated to an institution or only private/public universities. These challenges are systemic, complex, and will require collaboration amongst a diversity of stakeholders.
At a briefing with NCHE officials at NCHE House recently, officials from USAID and the Project said as regulator of the higher education sector in Malawi, NCHE will be instrumental in the successful implementation of the project.
